GenRes Study Day 2012

GenRes Study Day 2012

Over 50 members attended despite the weather causing major travel disruptions due to a freak storm the previous day in Newcastle. The guest lecture 'Mitochondrial Disease & Genetics' was given by Dr Bobby McFarland from the Mitochondrial Research Group, Newcastle University. Lauren Roberts from SWAN, Syndromes Without a Name, gave a fascinating talk about her work with families from SWAN. Lauren showed photos set to music of some of the 'SWANs'.  A group of SWAN parents came along to the study day and took part in a thought provoking Q&A session about their involvement and attitude to research.

Rebecca Hill, Genetics Editor at Progress Educational Trust asked some GenRes members to explain why support staff are crucial to successful clinical genetic studies and wrote an article for the January 2013 BSHG Newsletter.
