The results of the 2010 round should be
available in the next few weeks and will be published on the
ACCEA website.
I hope that we will see the names of a number of clinical
geneticists included. It is now time to start thinking about the next round
and I strongly encourage colleagues to apply.
There are a number of ways that you can
do this; but for any route you MUST complete an application form
electronically on the ACCEA website in time for the deadline (which is
usually in early December). The link is not live yet for the 2011 round but
the form will look like "Form A" which is available for download below.
1. You can apply for support from your
Trust and instructions should be sent to you from your Medical Director's
office.
2. You can apply to the Royal College of
Physicians
.
Details of the RCP nomination process for awards 2011 will be available at
http://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/members/affairs/clinicalExcellence.asp
To be considered for RCP support you must complete the RCP CVQ form online
and submit the completed form by Friday 3 September 2010 at the latest.
3. You can apply to CGS for support .
Please note that you can
apply by any or all of these routes.
CGS has two opportunities to support
colleagues: we are invited to provide citations for people who are highly
ranked by the RCP nominations committee and we are also invited to make a
small number of nominations of our own. The document below called Specialist
Societies Instructions gives details of the instructions that the society
has received, which I thought you might find helpful. There is also
a blank copy of the nomination form (Form B) that we will be using.
The document available below called "Procedure"
is a summary of the CGS process. If you wish to apply for CGS support, then
please read this document and then complete the "Expression of interest
form". Completion of this form will
help the CGS nominations committee and it gives you an opportunity to
highlight your work for the specialty and the society.
If CGS wishes to nominate someone, and we
are also asked to provide support for the same person because they have
been nominated by the RCP then we will ask 2 different people to write
separate citations in order to improve the chances of success.
What you must do if you
would like to be considered for a CGS nomination:
- complete form A, plus any of the
others (D, E and/or F as appropriate) and email them to me together with the
expression of interest form by Friday 3rd
September.
- please do not send CVs or any other
information as these will not be considered.
- I also suggest you consider asking a
more senior colleagues with an ACCEA award (see ACCEA website for the
results of previous rounds) to read your draft application and advise you as
there is an art to doing this sort of thing and I am sure that colleagues
who have been successful previously will be happy to help.
